Friday's activities


Period 1

Social Studies

Objective: Students will present what they have learned about the Five Pillars if Islam.
Materials needed: Student laptops
Task:
Students will get together in their groups and review the information they have researched. Students will log in to their Voicethread accounts and create a Voicethread for each pillar. Each group member will have to comment on the Voicethread at least once.

Follow-up:
The teacher will create a link (from the class blog) to the Voicethreads for each of the pillars.


Period 2

Language Arts

Objective: Students will begin chapter 1 from the book.
Materials needed: 25 copies of Three Cups of Tea, laptops, LCD projector.
Task: Students will begin to read Three Cups of Tea.
Students will listen to the book on CD while following along in their books.
Teacher will pause the CD periodically to ask comprehension questions and ask for predictions form students.

Follow-up/Homework: Students will respond to question(s) on the class blog from chapter 1.


Period 3

Home Economics

Objective: Students will prepare their product for the afternoon bake sale.
Materials needed: ingredients, tables, trays, cash box with float.
Task: Students prepare their product for the bake sale, and set up the room to prepare for the customers. This includes posting signs, assigning prices and setting food out on trays and tables. The sale will take place at 1:30 pm during workshop.

All profits from the sale go to Pennies for Peace


Period 4

Math

Objective: Students will examine relationships between currency rates and literacy rates.
Materials needed: Laptops, Internet, graphing software, spreadsheet software.
Task: Students will research the currencies of Pakistan and the other five countries.
What is the exchange rate. Students will plot the currency rate as it compares with the US dollar.

Discussion question:
Do you see any relationship between literacy rates and currency rates for these countries? Explain.


Period 5

Art

Objective: Students will create their own collage
Materials needed: Collage materials brought in by students, teacher materials, glue, markers.
Task: Students will continue to work on their collage stories.
The stories will be displayed throughput the school when completed (for Monday)
